RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM
MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the St. Gilbert Religious Education Program is to provide an atmosphere that supports families as they develop a relationship to God and the Church community. As Catechists, parents, and students, we celebrate, learn and share our faith in God. Through our actions and with the direction of the Spirit we witness to the Gospel and its command to "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel..." (Mark 16:15)

LETTER FROM SR. DONNA

Welcome to the Saint Gilbert Religious Education Program! I am Sister Donna Schmitt, the Director of Religious Education.

Parents as the primary educators have already given the young people a love for God and the Catholic faith. The Religious Education Program is here to assist you with teaching your child about God, the scriptures, and the Church.

This Website gives you information about the Religious Education Program as well as our responsibilities and commitment to each other. In working together, we can assist and encourage the young person in making a life-long faith commitment. The members of the Catechetical Staff are excited about the opportunity to share the Catholic faith with your children. They are dedicated and committed to proclaiming the mysteries of our faith, to build the Church community, to encourage worship and prayer, and to motivate service to others.

If you have any comments or questions about the program, please contact the Religious Education office, (847) 223-3071.

In Christ,

Sister Donna Schmitt
Director, Religious Education Program

BREAD IN BAG PROJECT

These pictures are from the Rejoice in God and the Family Program.  The topic was the Eucharist and its connection to Bread.  The Eucharist is a meal like the one that Jesus ate with his friends the night before he died.  At that meal Jesus blessed the bread and it is the Eucharist, the Bread of Life.  The families made a loaf of bread with all its ingredients and took it home to bake it.  Pictures are of various members of the family with the bread.  A prayer service that was sent home to be prayed with the baked bread.  It was a wonderful experience for the families.
